April 26, 2005 Meeting

Meeting was called to Order by David Kimble, President

INTRODUCTIONS: David asked if there were any quests.  Catherine and Bill Geise introduced their daughter (who looks like Bill) and their two granddaughters.  Great to have them join us.  Chris also had a guest, Camillia.

TREASURER'S REPORT: Brad presented the Checkbook and paper work to the new Treasurer. $405.06 was the current balance in our account. Account will be transferred to David Blakey the new Treasurer.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Dues are due for current members.  Lorraine Webster plans to send out a notices to the current member when dues are up for renewal.  David Blakey will look into setting up a paypals account for the club to enable us to pay on-line.  He will work with Susan Jacques to get this on our web page.

OLD AND UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Dragon Run events updates.  Bill Geise announced that Chick-Fil-a offered to supply napkins.  They would also come set up a booth if we were able to guarantee the sale of 200 sandwiches.  The club decided that it was not able to meet such a guarantee so the club passed on the booth but graciously accepted the napkins.  Thank you to the Geises.

NEEDS & VOLUNTEERS FOR THE 2005 DRAGON Friday, MAY 6th: 2005 3-4pm for registration desk at the door. 209 people including contestants have registered for the cook-off to date and there are many who will pay at the door. (Mark Ferguson shows 388 have registered in total)  Each person entering the Chili Cook-off Pot Luck will require a wrist bands and a packet with their tasting cups, spoons, voting tickets, and drawing tickets.  Then an extra bag if someone bought a dish.  This will be a big job.

We need someone to help manage the chili contestant people .  Help them with their table assignment; just generally help them with their needs.

We will also need someone to help the vendors know what to do. ( Does SMMC want to set up a table?)

We need a greeter at the door.

We need some signs.  Directional signs, advertising signs etc.

We need some people who will be willing to come on Friday afternoon and help set up the area.  Must start setting up right after lunch.  Contestants are to begin by 3:30.  Doesn¹t leave us much time for any OOPses.

We need help putting together the bags for both the Contestants and for the people who bring a dish. Volunteers:  David & Sarah Blakey & Suze and Alan Jacques

We need someone (or two) to watch the pot luck table to take away empties, throw away trash, consolidate where makes sense, clean up spills, manage trash, more ice, rearrange and anything else that needs to be done.

We will need a cleanup crew to help with the cleanup.  I think we just need to take out everything we brought in...put trash in cans etc. Volunteers:  EVERYONE HELPS WITH CLEANUP.

As of 4/28/05 there are 230 entries to the event with 19 of those being cookers.  We anticipate many will pay at the door as there are 402 folks signed up to come to the event period. There are other activities associated with the dragon please visit the website of North American Motoring and SIGN UP TO COME.  YOU ONLY HAVE A COUPLE OF DAYS.

NEW BUSINESS: VOTING FOR OFFICERS AND BOARD MEMBERS: Tom Spray so moved that the nominees named in the last meeting be passed with no protest. Seconded. The yea¹s confirmed the nominations.  There were 4 members nominated for executive board members:  Jim Overdorf, Bob Ledford, David Van O, and Brooks Carson. After counting the ballots David Van O and Jim Overdorf were elected to serve on the executive board for a two year term.

SUGGESTIONS FOR WARM WEATHER ACTIVITIES Potential July Picnic at Fall Creek Falls Firefly/Dragon Flies in the Smokies Nashville Homecoming in August Do a combined activity with the Nashville club meeting half way between Knoxville & Nashville.

DRAGON RUN COMMITMENTS 2006:   There will be a meeting regarding the Dragon Event for next year.  If there is anyone in the club who would like to be an event sponsor for next year on any of the events please let us know or plan to attend the meeting.  Both David Blakey and Donna Kimble plan to attend and are willing to help anyone who would like to chair an event. 

ORAL COMMUNICATIONS: Swap & sell Announcement - SMMCC receives a 15% discount on any parts at Mini of Nashville. Just tell them you are a member of SMMCC. Oil Filters are available if you need one from David and Donna Kimble.

Technical Questions and Answers:   If anyone has performed a rear brake pad replacement on a mini you know it is easier and really requires a special tool.  David Kimble has one of the special tools.  He has graciously agreed to loan it or if you are unable to perform the task yourself and need help he will try to help you.
