Coming up:
Drive In Movies Meeting! Saturday, September 15!
NO REGULAR MEETING for the month of September. Instead, we will take in a drive-in movie on Saturday, September 15th. As the same feature, "Daddy Day Camp", is playing at the two closest drive ins, we will go to Midtown in Roane County as our last drive-in was at Parkway. Meet at the Texaco at the corner of Watt Road and Kingston Pike at 5PM. We will take highway 70 to the drive in. Burgers are available at the concession stand.
MINI RAISING! Saturday, September 29!
On Saturday, September 29, we will have a group re-assembly of Leslie's classic Mini. It has been marooned at the body shop for so long that we thought it might be fun to put it on the fast track to a finish. Arrive anytime after 7AM on that Saturday and stay however long you would like. If you have ever wondered what it is like to work on the assembly line at the Mini factory, this might be the closest you will come. Experienced help will be on hand to ensure that assembly truly is the reverse of dis-assembly.
This activity will likely appear in MC2 magazine here in the US and Mini Mag in the UK. Come by and see if you can make the cut. Food will be provided for lunch so let me know in the next few weeks if you plan to attend.
Boo Run! Saturday, October 27!
Casper's favorite run. Dress up your MINI in costume and join us for dinner, a parade up the Parkway in Gatlinburg, followed by the spooky Darkness Run, all set to a fun soundtrack. Check previous threads regarding this run on the SMM message board for costume inspiration. It is surprisingly easy to decorate a MINI for Halloween. This will be the 4th annual Boo Run. Maybe the GREAT PUMPKIN will reappear. If you would like to overnight in Gatlinburg with the out of towners, I am working on rooms at the Americana Gazebo Inn. Look for more details shortly.
For the first time, you will be able to say "been there, done that, got the Tshirt" on the Boo Run. Black, long sleeve Tees with the attached art will be available by pre-order until October 12th. $22 up through XL. Add $2 for 2XL and $4 for 3XL. More info will be forthcoming.
MINIs Motoring Against Cancer combines with The Minnie Challenge - October 13th:
Last November, a number of area MINI owners participated in the Minnie Challenge held by the Phil Wicks Driving Academy. The Minnie Challenge will be repeated this year on October 13th. You can read more about it here on the Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation website.

Everyone is encouraged and invited to participate in the Minnie Challenge.
This is a grass roots campaign, raising funds for cancer charities, designed to honor the memory of a MINI owner in North Carolina. A banner was prepared and the idea was born to send it across country via MINI enthusiasts. Each group with the banner raises funds while enjoying their MINI and then donates the funds to a local cancer charity. It is presently stalled in Alabama and needs our help to make it further west.
To that end, a "show and shine" element is being added to the Minnie Challenge. A document is attached with more details. This will be a very laid back car show designed for just hanging out with other MINI owners. I hope you will be able to participate in this worthwhile event and add your name to the banner. Even if you can't attend you can help the cause by printing out copies of the entry form and "tagging" a few MINIs around town. You can also help by seeking small items for goody bags for car show participants. Pens, notepads, anything is appreciated. You would be surprised what is available for the asking. As I plan to be instructing for the Academy that day, help with the car show would also be appreciated. It will not be a very heavy work load. "Laid back", remember? :)
The next regular club meeting - Thursday, October 25th at 6:30PM:
This will be a quarterly business meeting and will be held at a restaurant. I had a spot chosen but have discovered a need to change that. I'm going to suggest the Gondolier Restaurant in Farragut. Any objections or suggestions, speak quickly.
